A brilliant gig at Colchester Institute on 8th November with Matt Senior (drums) and Rory McFarlane (acoustic bass) guesting with the band. Matt and Rory did an excellent job, thanks guys! Hopefully Rory, a stalwart of Richard Thompson’s band for many years, will be joining Acoustic Earth regularly for gigs in 2013.
When you work frequently with musicians you develop an understanding, an intuition based on hours of playing, rehearsing and recording. This allows a freedom to take the music to new places, safe in the familiarity of the people playing with you. When Andy and I took to the stage at the Institute, without James I think we were, to be honest, both a little bit nervous! But we needn’t have worried, Rory and Matt played beautifully as we reworked old tunes and christened some new ones, including a debut performance of the guitar/whistle duet Ophelia Weeps from the upcoming EP.
